Choose what to reverse

Character mode reverses grapheme clusters: an emoji sequence or a letter with combining accents moves as one unit. It does not mirror the drawn shape of a letter or change right-to-left writing rules.

Word mode reverses whitespace-separated tokens while keeping the whitespace slots where they were. Punctuation stays attached to its token. Line mode reverses the order of lines and preserves a final line terminator. It normalizes Windows and older Mac line endings to LF.

Use a short example first

“Fox and Otter” becomes “Otter and Fox” in word mode. In character mode, the same input becomes “rettO dna xoF”. Check mixed-direction text carefully: the browser’s writing-direction behavior can affect how reversed text appears.

Local text processing

The input is processed in this browser and is not sent to our servers or included in tool-use analytics. Use up to 20,000 UTF-16 input units at a time. Copy output keeps your original input intact; if clipboard access is blocked, the output is selected for manual copying.

Questions

  • Does reversing twice restore the original? Word and character modes usually do. Unusual combining marks can form new grapheme boundaries after reversal, and line mode normalizes line endings, so do not use this as a lossless storage format.
  • Does it reverse individual emoji components? Character mode keeps the browser’s grapheme clusters intact, including supported joined emoji sequences.
