How to play
- Every row, column and 3×3 box needs the numbers 1 to 9, each exactly once.
- Tap an empty square, then tap a number below the grid to fill it in.
- Not sure? Turn on Notes to pencil in small guesses.
- A wrong number turns red and costs a heart. Lose all 3 and the game is over.
- Fill the whole grid to win. The faster, the better.
Levels
- Easy: lots of numbers given. Good for learning the rules.
- Medium: fewer numbers, so you need to scan and use notes.
- Hard: few numbers given. Expect to pencil in candidates.
- Daily: one new puzzle every day, on a fixed level.
Beginner techniques
- Scan a number. Pick a number, say 5, and look at each 3×3 box that has no 5 yet. Rows and columns that already have a 5 rule squares out. Often only one square is left.
- Only one fits (naked single). Look at one empty square: if eight of the numbers 1–9 already appear in its row, column or box, the ninth must go there.
- Only one place (hidden single). In a row, column or box, a number may have just one square where it can go, even if that square could take other numbers.
- Use notes on hard grids. Write the possible numbers in each square. When a number is placed, clear it from the notes in its row, column and box.
